Breaking down the barriers to effective child protection work

14:00 – 15:00

This session will explore some of the common barriers to working with parents whose children are on child protection plans and look at what can be done to promote effective and positive changes for families. It will use a Signs of Safety framework to explore ways social workers can identify the worries and what is working well, and then communicate these to children and families so they can work towards future safety.

  • How your personal values and attitudes impact on how you build working relationships with children and families
  • How social and psychological factors impact on individuals and how these can act as a barrier to effective interventions
  • Working with children and parents with empathy and respect
  • Identifying the right intervention for families
