Case study: applying the knowledge and skills statement for social workers in adult services

09:45 - 11:00

While the development of knowledge and skills statements (KSS) has had a high profile in children’s social work, the KSS for social workers is now being rolled out in adults’ services. But how can the statement be used to provide a set of standards that meaningfully measure social worker performance and support their development? In this session the South Coast Regional Centre for Social Work Education teaching partnership will share its experience of using the KSS as the basis for adults’ social worker performance management, training and development in East Sussex and Brighton & Hove. It will explore:

  • What the KSS consists of
  • How the high-level statements of the KSS can be translated into concrete standards for practitioners that meaningfully relate to frontline practice
  • How the KSS can drive improvement in practice and support career progression for practitioners
