Dealing with the unknown: applying research and theory to practice in cases of child sexual abuse

11:30 - 12:45

Knowing what to do when you are concerned a child is being sexually abused in the home environment but there has been no verbal disclosure, is always a challenge. Drawing on research, theory and practice experience, this session will consider the areas we can explore in our work with families to support a more robust, proactive and protective response. It will focus on:

  • Taking a ‘whole family’ approach to assessing and intervening to support a more robust, proactive and protective response
  • Rethinking disclosure and our role within it
  • Addressing vulnerabilities to reduce risk
