LEGAL LEARNING SESSION: Cross-border social work post-Brexit

10/13/2021 15:30 - 16:30

The law governing care proceedings for children with overseas connections can be complex, particularly in the light of changes since Brexit. Children and Families Across Borders (CFAB) estimates that there are around 18,000 looked-after children in England and Wales who may have family members around the world who should be explored as options for their long-term care. In this session, one of CFAB’s inter-country social workers and its senior legal advisor will help you ensure you are up to date with the law and good practice and share case examples, with a particular focus on:

  • Practical issues and challenges when considering family members overseas as potential kinship carers.
  • The post placement support children living with kinship carers overseas are entitled to.
  • The role of a child’s nationality and immigration status in care proceedings.

There is a fee to attend legal learning seminars at Community Care Live.
