Retaining our social work values when times are tough

10/12/2021 13:00 - 14:00

Social work values are at the core of good and effective practice but maintaining them when times are tough, such as during a global pandemic, is a challenge for all practitioners.

In this interactive session, Oxfordshire County Council will discuss approaches to retaining your values during tough times, including through a child-based scenario.

Attend the session to discuss and reflect on:

  • The importance of self-care, and emotional and physical nourishment, as a bedrock for high-quality decisions and value-based thinking.
  • Noticing when you revert to unhelpful thinking and behavioural styles and working out how to exit these to get back to your value base.
  • How to stay professionally curious when times are tough and the value of stepping back in order to recreate curiosity.
