Motivational interviewing is an approach to conversations and communication that supports people to make changes in behaviour. It can be used in a variety of settings relevant to social work, whether working with a parent who wants to stop their drug use, or even with older adults in residential care.
In this practical, pre-recorded session:
- David Wilkins will talk about the uses of motivational interviewing in social work with children and families.
- Lydia Guthrie will talk about how motivational interviewing can be used when working with adults.
- David and Lydia will then demonstrate how motivational interviewing can work in practice through a ‘real-play’ scenario.
- David and Lydia will be available online to answer questions through the chat function.
