Supporting adults with learning disabilities to have initimate relationships

10/13/2020 14:00 - 15:00

Social workers often find themselves caught in the middle between an adult with learning disabilities who would like a relationship and their parents or support staff who think it is unsafe. Lack of relationships and sex education for people with learning disabilities is very common which means that many will not have had the information that they need regarding sex and relationships to build healthy, happy and safe relationships.

Join this session to learn about:

  • The relationship characteristics that are specific to adults with learning disabilities.
  • What the law says about sex and relationships for people with learning disabilities.
  • How to talk to parents who are reluctant for their son or daughter to have a relationship.
