10/13/2020 10:30 - 11:30

Social workers frequently work with children and families who have experienced trauma. This session will cover key stages in a child’s timeline and the impact of trauma on their developing brain and the behavior we may see at each stage.

The session will discuss developmental trauma, toxic stress and how a trauma informed understanding can mitigate and improve the life opportunities for the emerging young person and adult.

Attend this session to learn:

  • The link between what happened to a child and their behaviour.
  • How the child’s sense of safety is based is based on fear and danger as the organizing principle.
  • How healing and understanding can take place through the relationship.
  • The importance of being a safe and trusting adult.
