Modern slavery: spotting the signs and taking action

09:45 - 11:00

Awareness of the problem of modern slavery has grown significantly in recent years, but it remains a challenging area for social workers to navigate in terms of identifying and supporting victims, understanding the law, and inter-agency working. This talk will:

  • Review social workers’ duties under the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and how well they are being met
  • Provide guidance on signs of modern slavery and what you should do if you suspect someone is being trafficked or enslaved
  • Offer practical tips on working sensitively with victims of modern slavery and how to overcome the barriers to engaging with them
